“When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” John 19:30
Happy Good Friday to you all! Although on one aspect this is a day of mourning-as it surely was for Jesus’ disciples two thousand years ago-but it is a day that our HOPE truly came to pass. This is the day that Satan thought he won but Jesus’ stomped him instead.
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal. Well, I was planning on wearing a t-shirt I bought at the We Are Messengers concert last week. That t-shirt has ‘It Is Finished’ written in Gaelic! I love it! (I’m debating getting it as a tattoo) But instead I decided I would wear ‘Not Today Satan’. Although he can still cause some bumps (some larger than others) in our lives he HAS been defeated. It’ll be a little while longer before he’s fully put in his place…but he will be! Praise Jesus for that!
This day makes me think of the years I spent not living in the grace and hope that Jesus died to give me. I really believe that every time we do we are negating-in our own lives-what Jesus suffered through for us. A few years ago a friend did a Good Friday sermon. At the very end of the sermon he had us write our names on a piece of paper and then nail it to a large wooden cross that was laid out on the floor. I didn’t realize how very, very impactful that was. It really hit me how I’m responisble for what He went through. My sins are part of the weight of those spikes that pierced His precious skin. My sins were part of the whip that tore at His body as He was scourged…
He didn’t go through all that for us to live in defeat my dear friends. He died for us to live in victory! In the victory He won that day on the cross.
“It is finished”….our lives of living for ourselves alone, our lives of living in defeat, our lives filled with lies that we are unworthy. The God of the universe became man and died on that cross because HE says WE are worthy.
I don’t know where you are in your faith walk right now. If you are unsure of Who He is or don’t believe at all…Please just open your heart and mind…set aside any bias you may have due to what you have learned or how someone may have treated you…ask Him to show you that He is real. I have no doubt that He WILL.
Sending you all lots of love on this beautiful Holy Day we are celebrating.
It may be Friday but Sunday is coming! Thank you Jesus!!!
In HIS precious name.
“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
