“We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.” 1 John 4: 19-21
I was not feeling well yesterday and I took the day off of work to get myself together. So, I was sitting here watching Hidden Figures. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you should. It’s fantastic. Although I have seen it before, it really hit home with me how all these women, and I’m sure many more (men and women) haven’t been treated the way they deserve due to skin color, race, sexual orientation, whatever…
As the scripture above says…we should truly be loving each other. Yes, we will disagree with someone, or we may not relate with someone for one reason or another. Yet we should, through it all, be showing God’s love. When someone says that they can tell that we are a Christian it should be a good thing-that they can see how we love on ALL those around us. We shouldn’t be treating one person differently from another. Regardless of their beliefs, where they live, what they look like or how they live their lives.
John 3:16 is a very well known verse…but take another look at it anyway. “For God so Loved the WORLD, that He gave His only begotten Son, so whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” -No where in that scripture does it say that Jesus says that He came for everyone in the World except-whites, Hispanics, liars, or cheaters…NOPE He came for every single one of us. It is our responsibility to show people that God loves them, to guide them to Him and to show that He is our Hope. He wants us ALL (the World) to have eternal life.
I’ve seen, and I’m sure you have too, those that would rather act like a Pharisee with a pocket full of stones (John 8) than show the love of God. Those that are legalistic in their behavior towards those around them. Picking at the things we do wrong and never on what we do right-rarely showing the Love of God. Unfortunately they are the ones that seem to speak the loudest. Well my friends, that needs to change. We need to be the ones that are remembered-for the love we show those around us. Showing what God’s love, grace and mercy really are.
I do, with all my heart, believe every single word of the Bible. I believe that is a Love letter to the World and it is our guide book on how to live our lives. God may hate our sin-ALL OF OUR SINS- but He does not hate us. He doesn’t hate anyone. I want so much to let everyone know that God loves them. To ask them to come into relationship with God. To let God guide them in their life. Jesus died for them just as He did for you and I.
Who is God and what does He want?
He IS LOVE:
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God. who loved me and gave himself for me.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
He gives us HOPE:
Mark 10:52 And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.
Hebrews 6:19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain,
He wants NO ONE to perish:
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
Friends, I know speaking of sin can be a touchy subject, regardless of whose sin we speak of. That’s why so many churches are watering down the Gospel and teaching only scripture that is ‘uplifting’ and those that speak of ‘blessings’. God does do all of that but it is not all He is. He is our Abba Father. A Father who loves His children. And it is because He loves us that He cannot allow us to remain the same as the day we come to Him.
One of the best things about this country is that we do have freedom of religion. I will not shove my faith into someone else’s face. I do however want to see everyone come to Jesus. To be saved for eternity and to know the Jesus who is ‘the Way, the Truth, and the Life’. So I will be as loving as I can be and with His help be the best example of Him- to all that I meet.
I pray that you get to know every aspect of Him. If you don’t know Him, ask Him to make Himself known to you. If you’re sincere, He will.
In Jesus’ precious name.
