“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
Is there a scene in a movie or a specific song that reminds you of a difficult time in your life? I’m almost embarrassed to tell this particular story but I will in the hopes it’ll either help someone or give them a good laugh...just don’t laugh too much at me, ok? LOL
So…I already mentioned that I’m divorced-though now remarried (thank you Jesus). I’ve been divorced for a very long time and thankfully we get a along wonderfully now. So much so we married our spouses on each others birthdays! However, no matter the circumstances, divorce is hard. Everyone is hurt, maybe even angry. Therefore, it should be no suprise that I was in that angry and hurt mode for a few years after we split up. It really wasn’t pretty and I made a lot of mistakes.
I needed at the time to feel what was going on but wasn’t able to on my own…so the scene that really spoke to me (don’t laugh) is in the movie ‘Waiting to Exhale’ with Whitney Houston. The scene is where Angela Bassett’s character finally hits bottom and loses it. She goes into her soon to be ex-husband’s closet, takes everything out-stuffing it all in his car-and sets his car on fire. It’s not so much (maybe a little) the destruction part that spoke to me but her blatant display of devastation. Movie or not, sometimes you need to know that someone else feels the same way you do.
The reason this memory came to mind right now is because I was listening to a new song by Danny Gokey called ‘Tell Your Heart to Beat Again”. Part of the lyrics speak of the fact that, although we may not see it, God is working in our situation. I try not to wish I was differnt in my past-we sometimes need to make mistakes to really learn a lesson-but I really wish I knew this then. That God was with me there. Knowing what was coming down the road for me would be good.
Turn to God, He is with you always. One example I heard this week was that during our really difficult times, He is there, His arms wrapped around us, saying “I am never going to let you go”. Thank you Jesus!
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
Have a blessed Friday friends!
In Jesus’ precious name.
