Where Does My Help Come From?

“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1,2

If there were ever a word I would rather have not learned, it would be COVID-19. Who could have imagined when we were celebrating the end of 2019 that 2020 would be like walking into the Twilight Zone?

While I wish the Corona virus never made an appearance it has brought along some big blessings for me. As I am not considered an ‘essential’ employee, I began working from home the second week of March, just as my mother’s cancer treatments were starting. These times of mandated social distancing and working remotely have given me the privilege to bring her to several of her appointments. To be with her, more for my own sense of well being I think than hers, right through her last treatment.

Although her treatment has ended for now, the concern for what comes next creeps right in. It can be easy to allow myself to get overwhelmed. My worry isn’t just about my mom but about my job and being able to continue to pay my bills, have food on the table, etcetera. All these worries can sometimes keep me up at night….it can seem like there is nothing that is certain.

But there is. God.

One of my regular phrases in my prayer time is ‘Lord I am thankful that you know the end from the beginning.’ And He does. Isaiah 46: 8-10 states;

“Remember this and stand firm, recall it to mind, you transgressors, remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’

Our uncertainty about tomorrow may be there but we can take comfort that He already knows what the outcome is for everyone one of our situations. There is nothing that takes Him by surprise.  Verse 3 in Psalm 121 says;

“He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber.”

I absolutely love this. God will guide our paths and enable us to stand strong. But along with that is the knowledge, the promise, that He is paying attention to what is going on in our lives. He doesn’t stop caring. He doesn’t stop encouraging us and guiding us. Even when the enemy tries to tell us that the thing we are worried about means nothing to God, the Bible tells us differently.

I don’t know what is laying heavy on your heart but I do know that God is aware of your worries and He cares about it too. You matter to Him. Regardless of what is going on in the world right now, that will never change. You are the apple of His eye and He cares about you.

Let me encourage you to be in His Word, the Bible, daily. It is so easy to say that we don’t have time, we have other priorities etc. yet we will lay awake in the middle of the night worrying about the things in life we have little to no control over. Being in His Word reminds us of who He is. He is the creator of the Universe. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is too big or too small for Him to handle. With Him we can get through everything.

For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for good not evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
