“Surely the Lord has done great things! Don’t be afraid, my people. Be glad now and rejoice, for the Lord has done great things.” Joel 2:21
I’m currently writing this in a hotel room in upstate New York. I’m working out of a few of my organizations sites this week, giving me an opportunity to meet the directors and to do some training. Although I normally enjoy staying in a hotel once in a while, it’s not quite the same when my hubby isn’t with me. I can all too easily stay in the room after work and pretend the outside world doesn’t exist.
Other than the fact that I like to spend some time alone once in a while, I am also feeling a bit anxious this week. This is coming from a few different directions. One is because of the traveling that I’m doing and the people that I will be meeting. Although I know that I’m intelligent, this new position has me questioning myself a bit.
Then, and I’m going to be painfully honest here, I really-really hate the mirrors in these hotel rooms! As I’ve mentioned before, I’ve gained a lot of weight over the last few years. Depending on the mirror I’m ok. You know the ones…waist up only…they’re my best friends! But no, these darn hotel rooms have full length mirrors…in the bathroom…right outside the freaking shower! I already know where my issues are, I seriously do NOT need any assistance in finding them. Thank you very much!
So, between traveling all week, staying in hotel rooms and being painfully aware of my weight issue…I’m having a blast. Not! I don’t mean to come off ungrateful for this opportunity. I am very grateful. I’ve seen parts of New York I’ve never seen before. Met people I’ve only spoken to over the phone. And I’ve been given the trust to do a good job by my supervisor. I really am blessed.
So then, what the heck is my deal?! My guess? The enemy. You see, he knows all too well how to slow me up. What bumps to put I’m my way that are going to distract me from remembering who and whose I am. I am a child of the Most High God! And he hates it.
It is all too easy to find other reasons on why things happen or why we feel the way we do. To think that we would be under the radar of Satan and his demons. Granted, sometimes things that happen have other reasons for occurring. But my friend, if you are a true believer of Jesus Christ-you are definitly on his radar. And he’s working to trip YOU up.
He wants to trip us up so we don’t do what Jesus wants us to do….He called us (meaning all believers) to be SALT and LIGHT to the world (Matthew 5). He didn’t specify teachers, pastors, deacons etc. He calls us all to make a difference in the life of those around us. This world can be a really dark place and those around us don’t necessarily know how much HOPE and grace we receive by giving our lives to Christ. This is not to negate the fact that we will still have difficulties. Some of us more than others. How we respond in those situations can though and often will make a difference in the life of someone else.
I can only imagine the things that Paul the apostle went through. From all the beatings, stonings, whippings and jail time…It amazes me he was able to keep his heart and his mind pointed toward God through it all. I believe it is these very things he speaks of in Philippians chapter 4. In verse 4 he calls us to ‘Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!’. In verse 5 he says ‘Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.’
These verses are so powerful and life giving! If people can see that although we are going through a struggle-whether large or small- and we are able to continue to keep our eyes on God with the hopeful expectation that He is working on our behalf. Oh my gosh! People need that! They need to know that no matter what they are going through there is someone there that loves them with everything that He is. So much so that He sacrificed Himself for them! And that He truly is near!
Satan wants more that anything to convince us that we are a no one. That we are not on God’s radar in any sense of the imagination. Who are we that God would even know our name let alone intervene in our lives?
Good question….Who are we? We are children of God. And God loves us. Each of us, with everything that He is.
When He thinks about YOU my friend, He sees the color of your eyes. Every nuance of every part of your body. Every freckle or wrinkle. Every piercing you may have gotten or tattoo displayed on your body. He knows every single ounce of you and He adores you.
Do you know what He wants in return? A relationship with you through His Son Jesus. He doesn’t want us to wait to change our ways…that’s another lie of the enemy. ‘God won’t accept you the way you are, you need to change first.’ The problem is, we can’t change without God’s help. This is an awesome example of why it is so very, very important to read the Word of God.
Jesus actually states in Matthew 11: 28-30 ‘Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.’
If you haven’t given your life to Jesus yet, please wait no longer, come to Him now.
If you would like to give your life to Jesus now, pray this prayer;
‘Jesus, I know that you are God and that you died on the cross for me and my sins. I believe that you rose again from the dead. I ask you to forgive me for all the sins I have committed. I ask you to come into my heart today, take residence within me Lord. Work in me and through me. I make you my Lord and Savior. I pray this in your precious name Jesus. Amen’

My heart and prayers are with each of you. If you have given your life to Jesus it is important to reach out to other believers and to find a Bible based church (one that sees the Bible as the inerrant Word of God-they don’t change the Bible to fit our standards), read the Bible-even if it’s just a line or two to start and be in prayer! Prayer is our weapon against the enemy and it is how we grow our relationship with God and Jesus.
Lots of Love to you all. In Jesus’ precious name.
