Forgive and Forget

“I love the LORD, because He has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy. Because He inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call on Him as long as I live.” Psalm 116:1-2

I’ve been looking over my blogs the last few days and I honestly have to laugh. It seems like I have nothing but issues in my life. When frankly, that’s just not the case. Yeah, I’ve got issues-who doesn’t? But I am also so very, very blessed. I am alive and well, I have a husband that loves me, grown kids who are doing well, a new job that is keeping me busy, food in my tummy and a roof over my head…and best of all a God that loves ME.

That’s the part that really makes the rest hit home. Because-who am I that He would bless me so much?! Hasn’t He seen (and still see) all my mistakes and sins? All my shortcomings and bad behavior? Things that can still bring feelings of guilt and shame when they come to mind. Things I pray others don’t do or go through. Yes, He has seen them. And He still loves me. He still wants a relationship with me.

The ladies and I had a discussion in our Bible study where I had asked them to be ready to discuss the subject; ‘God tells us through His Word that we must forgive…what about Forgive and Forget?’ One of the things we discussed was that it can be difficult to forgive ourselves, let alone anyone else. Boy, do I know that feeling! We are so often our own worst critics. We don’t see how God can forgive some of the awful things we’ve done in our past. I’d even, to some extent, say past lives….the lives that we’ve worked to put behind us once we truly gave ourselves to Jesus.

And that, my friend is part of the problem. We’ve worked.

We live with a mindset that if we want something we need to work toward it. That changes with some things when we have a relationship with God through His son Jesus. Rather than telling ourselves over and over again that we need to forgive ourselves or someone else, we need to ask God to help us. Forgiveness is rarely something that will happen automatically. And we will rarely forget even when we do forgive. Forgiveness is something that we need to choose to do….and continue to choose to do until we finally feel it. It is during this interim time that we need to seek the Lord for His provisions of love and strength as we do what He has instructed us to do. To love our neighbors as ourselves and to forgive any trespass that has been done against us.

I don’t know what you may have done in your life that you may be struggling with or what  your ‘neighbor’ (fellow human) may have done as an offense to you…bring it to Jesus. Lay it at His precious feet. Pray for strength and guidance. Pray for yourself and those around you (include those you struggle with loving). Remember that no matter what you or I have done in our lives-God loves us, ALL of us-with every ounce of who He is. The cross proves that.

Bring all your issues to Him, lay them at His precious feet….and leave them there! We all too often lay our issues and hurts at His feet and walk back five minutes later and pick it up again. 🤔 Leave it all there.

There is no ifs, ands or buts about it my friend…GOD LOVES YOU. You are so very, very precious to Him.

Come. Spend time with Him. Pray, meditate, find a good Bible based church and be sure to fellowship with other Bible believing Jesus followers/disciples. Give thanks for where you are…for He is with you always.

My heart and mind is with you today. I pray for His abundant blessings and protection over you.

God bless.

In Jesus’ precious name.
