Memorial Day 2017

“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” Proverbs 18:10

Hi friends,

I’m going to keep it brief today and ask you to keep in mind what this weekend is all about. Not barbecues or parties but remembering the sacrifice of those who lost their lives (and continue to do so) for our country (USA). It is all too easy to take for granted the freedoms that we do still enjoy here. We get to go to church service and Bible studies openly. We don’t have to hide the crucifix we wear around our neck or whisper the name of Jesus. We get to disagree with out government and not be put into jail (and that would be on a good day). We get to carry our Bibles with pride, not fear. And all that is because of those who fought and fight for our country.

My heart and prayers are with those who are currently serving and those that are on deployment. Being away from their families for months at a time. I pray for their families that jump at every phone call or knock on the door, worrying that something has happend to the one they love. I know that tension. My son served this GREAT country. And I know how giddy I felt as I picked up the phone and heard his voice from thousands of miles away…or even better hearing the distinct ring of a Skype call. All those things that we take for granted when our kids are in the same house, let alone state or country.

PLEASE take time and say thank you to a service member or a veteran. And mean it. Buy them a cup of coffee or a meal.  Not just this weekend but throughout the year. Know a family with a service member? Thank them too! Their lives are often up in turmoil as their loved on is serving. Trust me…I’m A LOT chunkier than I was before my boy entered. LOL

And I pray for all the Gold Star families. There are too many. Too many broken hearts. I pray that God gives them strength to get through each day. I pray that He surrounds them with the support they need, emotionally, spiritually, financially…whatever it may be. WE owe them a very great debt.

My husband’s nephew worked on a program that will be airing on ABC radio here in the US this weekend called “America Remembers”. Please take time to listen to your local station for it. Give honor to the fallen and those left behind.

I Hope and pray that I will be worthy of the sacrifices that have been made.

Lord Jesus, I lift up all those who serve this great country. I ask you to put a hedge of protection around every man and woman in our armed forces. Lord, You know each of their hearts. I ask you to place people in each of their paths that will guide them to YOU. I pray for their families, that they know You are watching over them and those they love. Loving and gracious Father-I ask you to wrap Your loving arms around all the Gold Star families, all those mamas, dads, brothers, sisters, wives, husbands and children. Given them strength Father. Help them feel your presence, even on their darkest days. Guide those around them in how best to be of service in their time of pain. Guide each of us Lord Jesus on what to say or do to truly show our gratitude for the freedom they all have provided.

In Jesus’ precious name.

Amen

May God bless each of you this weekend.

Tara
