“For that is what God is like. He is our God forever and ever and He will guide us until we die.” Psalm 48:14
I have allowed life to get in the way this past month or so with my Bible reading. It may seem silly but it really does have an effect on how I feel and how I behave. I am, most definitely, a crankier person lately-with very little patience. That’s just one of many reasons why I am so thankful that our God is so full of love, grace and mercy. Even though I have allowed things to come between me and Him-His arms are still open wide and He’s still willing to bless me.
So…I started back at my regular reading yesterday and Psalm 48 was part of that. That last verse made my jaw drop! THAT is what God is like. He IS our God FOREVER and EVER. And not only that…He will guide us ALL of our days. Thank you Jesus!
It can be so easy to think that since we have put God on the sidelines that He has done the same with us. Especially when we are going through struggles. But that’s simply not true. He’s still there, guiding us and loving us. Thankfully He is much more patient than we are. Just look at the Old Testament…how many times the people of Israel turned their back on Him. And yet He still sent them a Savior. His only Son.
The world can seem like a very dark and scary place at times, causing us to be unsure on how we should think about life, people, our safety… I try to hold onto God’s continual promises that He will never leave us or forsake us. I think, with all the violence that has been happening in the world, being able to hold on to Scriptures like Psalm 23 is so vitally important. To know that those words still ring true today.
I love this piece of Scripture. And when you look at the meanings of it, it gives so much more HOPE than even just reading does-and that is a lot on it’s own! He tells us that we will not lack and we will not be made lower. He will both lead us and protect us as He leads us to a peaceful place. He will renew us and lead us in His truth. I have a lot of appreciation for verse 5 especially. He prepares a table before us in the presence of our enemies…wow! He will and does give us the strength and protection we need wherever He guides us to.
And in the end…oh, how I feel this; ‘Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.’
Friends, I Hope and pray that you know, without any doubt, that God loves YOU.
No matter how dark our days may get, He is always walking beside us. Faithful, unwaveringly. “For the Word of the Lord holds true and we can trust everything He does.” Psalm 33:4
God bless. In Jesus’ precious name.
