“Jesus answered: Listen Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is One. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your sou, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is: Love your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27
As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog, the answer of the one person Lee Strobel interviewed on why Jesus would willingly suffer and die as He did was…LOVE. His love for us is pure. There is no strings attached. He loves everyone, whether or not that love is returned.
It is AGAPE love.
I really love one part of the definition…’a love feast’. His love for us is like a smorgasbord (don’t mind the food reference, lol). It is overflowing. It is shown in so many ways. It is given in the best of times and the worst of times. NOTHING can come between us and God’s love…
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. “. Romans 8:37-39
I only recently learned how completely brutal the acts that Jesus went through when He was tortured and died on the cross were. Prior to the crucifiction itself He was scourged. This act alone put Jesus into a critical medical condition. The loss of blood would have been significant as His body was torn to pieces. The crucificition would speed along the remainder of the life He held onto. His arms stretched wide kept His lungs in a position that He would need to push Himself up on His feet-the feet that now had a stake through them-in order to exhale. Eventually He was no longer able to do this and gave up His spirit to God.
I don’t know about you but I don’t know how readily I would do this willingly for someone. Someone I liked let alone for someone who didn’t like me. But He did. He chose to suffer and die for everyone. Everyone then and for everyone now, regardless if they have faith in Him. JESUS is the narrow gate in which we get to go to the Father. He is our Shepherd who is there to guide and protect us. And He protects that gate.
You see, at the end of the day, it is OUR choice on whether or not we get to spend eternity with Him. It is our choice if we get to see our loved ones again that have given their faith to Him. It is our choice to grab hold of the HOPE that ONLY He can provide.
I pray that Jesus will open your heart, mind and spirit to His love, His agape love for you. Come to Him. Your life will not be the same!
